With more than ten years of experience in the public sector, Iván has played prominent roles in the areas of mining, energy, fisheries, project development and environmental assessment. He was in charge of coordinating the drafting of the Indigenous Consultation Regulation.

For some time now, he has ventured into the private sector and has been involved in working with business associations. He practices in areas of specialization such as community relations, citizen participation, implementation of ILO Convention 169 and human environment assessment.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE

  • In 2020, as head of the Sustainable Development Division and later as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Mining, his work focused on supporting mining projects in the obtaining of permits and actively participating in the creation of the 2050 National Mining Policy.
  • As Head of the Project Development Division of the Ministry of Energy, he was in charge of following-up energy investment projects and implementing a special procedure for transmission strip studies.
  • In the Executive Office of the Environmental Assessment Service, he worked in several areas, such as the legal Division, where he provided legal advice in the Complaint Appeals Department, analyzing appeals presented before the Executive Office of the SEA (Spanish Initials for Environmental Assessment Service) and the Committee of Ministers and in the Environmental Assessment and Citizen Participation Division, where he actively participated in the drafting of the instructions for indigenous consultation in the SEIA (Spanish initials for Environmental Impact Assessment System) and collaborated in the coordination of the assessment of strategic projects.
  • In the Ministry of the General Secretariat of the Presidency he worked as lawyer in the Legal – Legislative Division, specializing in environmental and fishing issues. In addition, he was in charge of coordinating the drafting of the Indigenous Consultation Regulations.
